Company History
At the age of 19, freshly home from Viet Nam, and with very little education I was lucky enough to land a job with the top manufacturer of beverage bodies and trailers here in the United States. In less than 8 months my employer noticed that I had a drive in me, "To be at my best, at all times", and they promoted me to a Supervisor.
Maintaining that drive, within 2 years I found myself being promoted again into a Management position. With the Militaries training on self-disciplining and my employer’s interest in my ideas, I soon began to dream of my own business. That employer never discouraged, only encouraged me to pursue my dream, and in 1975 my evenings and weekends became dedicated to Coastal Welding Service.
Out of the garage in my back yard and the back of my pick up, my dream had become a reality. I did stay on with my 40 hour a week job for 20 years. Then 1989 the original owners, of the company that I had been working for, decided to sell out. At that time I knew my obligation to them was over, and I was able to put all my energy and effort into Coastal Welding Service.
When I left that job, several other top supervisors came with me. Their words to me, was that Coastal was not just a dream, but a vision from God. I soon chose to incorporate, and trusted in God and his guidance, that my company would make a stand and grow. Coastal did grow, and is now the largest refurbishing center of beverage equipment from the Mid-West to the Eastern Seaboard.
In 1998 we decided to change the name, because we do so much more then welding services. It is now Coastal Industries, Inc. and is located on the main 4-lane Hwy 264 West in Washington, North Carolina. Our department buildings equal up to 71,000 square feet and the plant site is on 12 acres, and has 1,000 square feet of road frontage. This companies equipment and buildings are built with the latest technology in mind. Coastal has also expanded its operations in Leon, Mexico, and I am in the first stages of planning on starting operations in the Philippines, and Viet Nam.
Everyone here at Coastal realizes that there are only 2 bosses – God and the Customers! By making sure our customers are satisfied, we have created a long list of repeat customers and many of them have been with me since the beginning. How else could this company have grown so fast and have the continuing success that it has, today?
Thank you,
